Reflections

Sometimes it is difficult for me to believe that the school year is just about over. Time sure does fly by so quickly. I have enjoyed my sophomore year here at Spring Arbor University. This year, I have been afforded many new and big opportunities while meeting some of the most wonderful people in the process. I thank God for bringing me through another year of hard work, wonderful friends, and the determination to finish the year strong. It hasn’t always been easy. Being a college student calls for a lot of late nights and early mornings of typing papers, preparing for exams and completing projects. The thing that has brought me through has been my faith in Christ and willingness to work hard while knowing that in the end, it will all pay off. I’ve simply had a great year being surrounded by professors who are interested in my success. I thank God that He placed me at Spring Arbor. I did not know that my junior year of college would sneak up on me so quickly. I am forever grateful for all the experiences that I have had not only in this year alone but since I arrived at Spring Arbor University. I am excited about what next school year has to offer.

Eventful Weekend

25 April 2012 ~ Comments Off

This past weekend was one of the best weeks ever. Not only did the campus host Relay for Life, but there was also a Switchfoot concert being held at the field house. There was also the admissions event for high school juniors, Junior Exploration. There were so many people on campus. It was so exciting to see everyone involved in the events taking place. I did not attend the Switchfoot concert but I know it was awesome. I got the opportunity to assist some of my teammates in working the hot dog stand for the concert. That day it was raining and really cold. Despite the weather, everyone lined up ready for a great night. I had to be at the gym early because of Relay for Life. I arrived at 3:30 only to see people already lined up for the concert. The doors opened at 7 and the concert started at 8. A lot of my friends went and they had a great time. I know some of the juniors who were visiting went as well. The gym was packed full this past weekend. The parking for both events was well organized but it was obvious how many people came out and were on campus. So, moreover, it was a great weekend for everyone!

Relay for Life

This past weekend, Relay for life was held. It is a fun overnight event that celebrates survivors and raises money to help the American Cancer Society save lives. As a participant you celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes away so many. I lost my step-father to cancer 4 years ago and my grandmother was just deemed cancer free. This event meant so much to me and to be a part of it was such a wonderful feeling. Anyone can get involved. There is a planning committee of local volunteers who plan all the relay details and they are always welcoming new members. This event is fun and there are creative ways that you and your team could organize how you will fundraiser. Since Spring Arbor University was the host this year, it was held in Dunkel Gym. My teammates and I from the cheer squad picked different times to walk and the good thing is you didn’t have to walk alone. We either walked together or asked a friend to come along for a hour or two. I had a great time walking for this cause, it was such a powerful and influential way to give back.

Simply Reflecting

13 April 2012 ~ Comments Off

Looking back, I see that the journey of life has brought me a long way. Life, essentially, is a collection of events. Some of these events have small plans with huge purposes and they travel in many directions. Upon much reflection, I know that it’s my turn to make an impact in the lives of those I see daily. Because God has faultlessly designed my life, I am starting to understand the purpose of helping others utilize opportunities and realize their true potential. Recently I have been focusing my thoughts on where I want to go and what I want to achieve in order to be a blessing to others on this campus and in my community. I have found that if there is any secret in building my future it’s that I build it one thought at a time. Great lives are built on great thoughts that become the blueprint for life. It’s important that I make sure my thoughts stay positive, empowering, resourceful, and unlimited. How else will I be able to reach out to others? Planning my work and working my plan is what allows me to stay focused on what I need to do in order to show the leadership potential that resides deep within me.

3 Weeks and Counting

12 April 2012 ~ Comments Off

Full library, printers constantly running, students hurrying, projects due, study group, test after test after test!!!!! This is the atmosphere of a campus filled with students who only have three weeks of classes left. Since my return from Easter break my ears have been buzzing about the “x” amount of days left until the semester is over. Everyone seems to be excited at the fact that summer break is quickly approaching. However, in the meantime, everyone is studiously doing their best to get homework completed, text books read and projects finished. Although I am geeked about the summer approaching, I am also sad that I have to leave my old and new friends behind. I always see the library full but not as packed as I have seen it these last couple days. Everyone is scrambling trying to make sure papers are written correctly, edited, and homework turned in promptly. I must admit, I am excited about the many opportunities that I will be pursuing this summer and I get to spend time with my family and friends back at home. I’m sure that everyone will have a wonderful summer, but until then, there is work to do. =)

Finish Strong!!!

Easter Weekend

09 April 2012 ~ Comments Off

This past Sunday was the celebration of the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I had the opportunity to go home to my family for the weekend and attend Good Friday service as well as service on Easter Morning. Service was wonderful.  I learned that their are five dimensions of resurrection of Jesus Christ in regards to the progression of destiny. They consisted of the Crucifixion, His death, His burial, His Resurrection and Christ’s ascension. Understanding these dimensions, I also started to figure out that if we don’t die to our flesh and the things of this world then we cannot rise above and live to the higher level of destiny that God has ordained for our lives. So it  is crucial that we stay dependent on Christ and rise above any opposition that may try to come our way. God knows the outcome of our lives. It is up to us to resurrect ourselves from those things of the past and choose the path that has already been set in place for us. Christ was crucified for our sin and resurrected so all mankind would be able to live a life without worrying about all their faults.
