Blue G’Noo

Friday, March 22nd I got to help out with Blue G’Noo. It is a freshman event where all of the Peer Advisors (PA’s) dress up differently than they normally look so they become disguised. Then they “hide” all around campus; in dormitories’ lobbies, academic buildings, the Cougar Den, and the Student Center.

The freshman dress up how their Peer Advisors normally look on a day-to-day basis and then must go searching for every PA, all over campus. They get a packet with silly pictures of all the PA’s and must find each one. When they think they know a PA, they must walk up to them and say their full name, first and last. If they get it right, the PA will sign their packet, but if they get it wrong, they must wait for 10 minutes before asking that PA another name. It is a crazy game that makes each Core work hard together.

I am not a Peer Advisor, but my boyfriend is. He dressed up and so did I, and then we sat together in Lowell lobby. Core after core came into the lobby and mistook me for a PA, but never looked at him (the real PA!). It was very funny! After a while, Cores began to get it right and ask him, but I was a good distraction for a while. Many other Spiritual Life Advisors (my position) and Resident Assistants helped out and dressed up too. It is all part of the game.

The game only lasts from 7pm until 8pm. The Cores must return to Dunckel Gym at that point and turn in their sheets to see who won. There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The Cores also get graded on how well they look like their PA. This gets awards too.

It is a super fun game and a lot of people get involved with it! If you are a student at SAU and would like to participate next year, ask your PA friends if you can dress up and hide with them. If you are thinking of coming to SAU, do it! Then get involved with Blue G’Noo! :)

Blue G’Noo

Last Friday, Spring Arbor University had its anual CORE 100 “Blue G’Noo” event. For the event each CORE 100 group is supposed to dress like their own Peer Advisor (PA). The group who was voted the most dressed like their PA was awarded. My CORE 100 group ended up winning the PA look-a-like competition, dressing as our PA Levi Norris. For the rest the event, every CORE group had to run through campus and find disguised PAs and get their signature. By the end of the allotted time whoever had the most signatures would have won the event. On top of trying to find as many PAs as possible, the group who found the “Blues G’Noo” would get bonus points.

The “Blue G’Noo” event was a great experience of bonding for all the CORE 100 groups. The laughter and joy of friendship seemed to negate the fact that it was pouring raining outside and that we were completely sweaty from running around campus. The joy experienced from just letting go of any and all cares of the week brought a feeling of peace and strong community. I am so thankful for events like “Blue G’Noo”; they give opportunity to just get away from all the cares and burdens of school work. The community built here at SAU is something I personally would never give for the world.

Thanks for reading,

Miles
