3 Weeks and Counting

Full library, printers constantly running, students hurrying, projects due, study group, test after test after test!!!!! This is the atmosphere of a campus filled with students who only have three weeks of classes left. Since my return from Easter break my ears have been buzzing about the “x” amount of days left until the semester is over. Everyone seems to be excited at the fact that summer break is quickly approaching. However, in the meantime, everyone is studiously doing their best to get homework completed, text books read and projects finished. Although I am geeked about the summer approaching, I am also sad that I have to leave my old and new friends behind. I always see the library full but not as packed as I have seen it these last couple days. Everyone is scrambling trying to make sure papers are written correctly, edited, and homework turned in promptly. I must admit, I am excited about the many opportunities that I will be pursuing this summer and I get to spend time with my family and friends back at home. I’m sure that everyone will have a wonderful summer, but until then, there is work to do. =)

Finish Strong!!!

A great experience at Chenaniah

We worked with some awesome people this week!

We are officially “over the hump”! Melissa and I made it through week 4, which was spent at Camp Chenaniah in Honor, MI. This camp was rather “rustic” as our boss likes to say, but it is a wonderful place to grow, serve, and have fun. There were only about 25 kids there, ages 7-17, and Melissa and I were counselors in the senior high girls’ dorm. Along with being counselors, we also led game time at night and were able to tell the kids how AWESOME Spring Arbor is!

We were there with two other college teams, Indiana Wesleyan and Southern Wesleyan. It was great interacting with other college students again, and I’m excited to keep in touch with them even after we’ve said goodbye. One way in which I’ve been growing this summer is learning how to appreciate the people in my life, even if I’m only with them for a short time. A difficulty in this job is attaching yourself to a person, a staff, or an entire camp atmosphere and then having to say goodbye after less than a week. When talking to Melissa about it after the second week, she felt herself starting to build a wall when we walked into camp #3 because she didn’t want to be hurt from having to leave those people once the week was up. We’ve both come to realize, however, that we can’t harden ourselves to the beautiful opportunities God has given us, even if we can only experience them for a short time. Ever since we decided to be open and welcome whatever relationships God has brought our way, I know we have both been refreshed and overfilled with joy because of what these new friends mean to us :).

Blessed by friendships

My roomies!

On Sunday, when Christina and I walked into my room after youth group, guess who was sitting on my couch! My first roommate! Yes, I say “first” because I have had three. Ashlee was my roommate first semester of freshman year. Christina was my roommate second semester of freshman year. And now sophomore year, I’ve been rooming with Britni!

It was a wonderful surprise to see Ashlee. Unfortunately, she had to leave after first semester last year, but she has faithfully kept in touch with all of us girls. She decided to surprise us on Sunday and randomly show up! She didn’t have long to stay and talk, but just seeing her brightened my night. They say you make your “lifelong friends” at college, and I can definitely see how that is true in my life. The craziest part was that all three of my roommates were in my room at one time, just by coincidence! We’re not all best friends, but that’s the beauty of college friendships. You can have small connections with people that do not fade because you don’t chat every day. You can rely on someone no matter what, simply because you have this desire to be intentional and be there for them through thick and thin. And my favorite part? You can hang out with a bunch of random people, and still all have a great time—even if you don’t know half of the names in the group! That’s pretty rare. And I am blessed to be immersed in that kind of culture of friendships here at SAU.
