Half Time

05 February 2013 ~ Comments Off

Last Saturday sparked nothing but anticipation and excitement as the Spring Arbor University Cheer Team performed their first halftime show. I must say, nerves flew through the air as time started to wind down with about 3 minutes on the clock before the buzzer would alarm the crowd and players that halftime was indeed about to start. As we ran out on the floor, cheering on the SAU Cougars, we all took our proper positions before the song was to be played. Then, with a signal from one of my teammates to start the music, we began to move and step to the beat. Then we went to our formations for stunting, with the stunts going up with an ease and such preciseness. It was so fun and exhilarating to be in front of the crowd and show some SAU spirit. Being a flyer, the adrenaline rushed through my body trying to insure that every move and stunt got the crowed pumped with excitement. By the time the music ended and our performance was coming to an end, everyone clapped and cheered us on which assured us that we succeeded at doing what we came to the games to do–cheer on the crowd and the team.

Take it to the Hoop

09 January 2013 ~ Comments Off

The clock is set at 38 seconds, and the bleachers are filled with students sitting on edge. The ball is in the hands of the Cougars, determined to make that winning shot. A chant is started, S-A-U, S-A-U, S-A-U…..and as students, professors and others rev up the home team a shot is made. The crowd goes wild. Already claiming victory, the ball bounces between the SAU Cougars and its opposing team only to end back in the hands of the Cougars. “Lets go,” “Take it to the hoop,” is yelled from the side lines in hope that the last couple seconds of the game would be a monumental moment. At the count down five, the ball is passed and bounces off the court. Four, another pass is made. Three, one of the players dribble the ball in observation of his surroundings, looking for the next available move. Two, a shot is made, the crowd gets quiet and on one the ball goes forcefully into the basket. Yes!!! The cougars take the win and the crowd goes crazy. This game couldn’t be more exciting. At the end, the cheerleaders lined up and formed a tunnel for the winning team only to continue cheering them on. The SAU Cougars did a great job at TAKING IT TO THE HOOP.

Cougars…Win!

20 February 2012 ~ Comments Off

Tuesday night, our home team did an awesome job and shot for the win at the basketball game. Knowing how important this game was to the guys, the crowd was hyped, the cheerleaders were pumped and the atmosphere was just sure to give the players the encouragement that they needed. Even down to the last nine seconds of the game, it was clear to see that the Cougars won, but they played to the very last second. Everyone was very proud of them. Even though I couldn’t stand and cheer with the cheer squad due to an injury, I still cheered in the stands along with peers and parents. I had my poms in hand showing all the spirit that I could lol. The game was so intense but exciting at the same time. I really enjoyed it. Everyone should come out again, this Saturday, Feb. 18, and support the guys who play against Huntington. Come on out and show how Cougar Crazy you are, and let’s cheer on our home team for another win. I can’t wait until Saturday, I know that the guys will perform very well. The game starts at 3:00 p.m at the fieldhouse.

Hope to see everyone there =)

Peace and Love

SAU vs. Hope Men’s Basketball Game

20 November 2011 ~ Comments Off

Saturday night was one fun-filled sports-packed night! Right after the Spring Arbor University women’s soccer team beat Siena Heights, my suitemate and I headed over to the Fieldhouse to watch the men’s basketball game. This game was exceptionally fun for me to watch because SAU was playing Hope College.

Why was this exceptionally fun? Hope College is located in my hometown in Holland, MI. Growing up, I went to several basketball games and attended different basketball camps at Hope College. Even though I grew up cheering for Hope, tonight I got to cheer for Spring Arbor University! Enjoy this small compilation video from the game from tonight… and make sure to come out to the Fieldhouse next time to cheer for our men’s basketball team!

Go Cougars!

Last Friday SAU had a home game. I was excited about it because it was the start of what I knew was going to be a wonderful weekend. My friends and I met up with each other at the fieldhouse to ensure that we were able to sit together. Watching this game made me anxious about the game Tuesday. Why? At Tuesday’s game I have to cheer. I really enjoy cheering on our home team with the girls on the squad. The game was really intense but it was so good to watch. That night our team won! I couldn’t help but snap picture after picture. The crowd was hyped, everyone was cheering on the team and enjoying the popcorn and other snacks at the concession stand. I love going to the games to support our teams, both men’s and women’s. It is a perfect opportunity to take a break from studying, homework, and hard work. I’m actually glad that I did not stay in my bed Friday evening, but instead went and showed some Cougar spirit. I know this basketball season will be great for our team this year, as it has been in previous years. I can’t wait to cheer our home team on and continue to show my support.

GO COUGARS!!!!

Exhibition Game

14 October 2011 ~ Comments Off

Last Saturday was SAU’s exhibition game. This is when all the players on the SAU basketball team play against SAU Alumni during Homecoming weekend. There was a good crowd of people there, especially since it was sibling Saturday, and a lot of parents came to campus for the day.  My heart raced in nervousness and anticipation during this game because I had to cheer and perform a stunt. Being a flyer (getting tossed in the air) can be really scary at times but I love it. Best believe, I was praying that once the time came for the cheer team to get out on the court that I would not fall, trip, or forget the cheer. I thank God for the cheer team because they reminded me to just have fun and enjoy myself. With all that said, everything was a success. I didn’t forget anything. The game was awesome as well. The crowd was pumped and the players were hyped. This school event marked the most exciting part of my weekend. Once the game was over, I found that I actually had more energy than what I’d thought. I chilled with some friends in my uniform for the rest of the night excited about what I saw as an accomplishment. =)
